Calabar Streets & Neighbourhoods Guide — Areas, Roads & Fares

Calabar EV guide · updated 2026 · reading time about 6 minutes

Calabar is a compact city — most trips run between a handful of neighbourhoods: the Marian corridor, the old town around Watt Market, Calabar South, the UNICAL axis, and the routes out toward 8 Miles and Tinapa. This guide walks through the areas people ask about most, the main roads that run through them, and how Calabar EV's planned flat ₦1,000 fare works across all of them. Calabar EV has not launched yet — you can already save a ride request, and we'll contact you when service starts.

The neighbourhoods, area by area

Each area below is inside the Calabar city zone, so any trip between them is planned to cost the same flat ₦1,000 fare at launch.

Marian

Calabar Municipality

One of Calabar's busiest mixed-use districts — offices, banks, shops and residential streets all sit close together. Trips here tend to be short, which suits a flat-fare shuttle.

  • Marian Road
  • Etta Agbor Road
  • Ndidem Usang Iso Road

Calabar Municipality (core)

Calabar Municipality

The historic heart of the city around the old town and the waterfront. Government offices, markets and residential quarters mix within a compact grid, so a ride from here to Marian or State Housing stays within the city zone.

  • Calabar Road
  • Goldie Street
  • Bassey Duke Street
  • Mayne Avenue

Watt Market

Calabar South

Calabar's biggest trading hub. Foot traffic is heavy most of the day, and pickups work best on the approaches to the market rather than inside the stalls.

  • Watts Road
  • Mike Omogbene Way
  • Ugo Street

Calabar South

Calabar South

Densely populated and commercially active, running from the market areas down toward the creek settlements. A flat fare matters most here, where informal transport pricing changes with the time of day.

  • Anantigha Street
  • Diamond Street
  • Eso Street
  • Atu Street

8 Miles

Calabar Municipality / Odukpani edge

The transport corridor on the northern edge of the city, where intercity traffic enters Calabar. Many rides start or end here as people connect between the city and destinations further north.

  • Murtala Mohammed Highway
  • Odukpani Road

Tinapa

North of the city

The resort and free-trade zone north of Calabar, with events, shops and film facilities drawing visitors from across the state.

  • Tinapa Access Road
  • Adiabo Road

UNICAL

University of Calabar

The University of Calabar campus and its surrounding student neighbourhoods. A constant flow of students, staff and visitors moves between here, Marian and the city centre.

  • UNICAL Main Gate Road
  • Ekpo Abasi Street
  • Ibeno Street

Lemna

Calabar Municipality

A growing residential and light-industrial area between the city centre and the northern corridors.

  • Lemna Road
  • Cross River Estates access

State Housing

Calabar Municipality

A planned residential estate area popular with families and workers — a common pickup point for morning rides toward offices and the markets.

  • State Housing Estate roads
  • Ikot Efre Road

Ekorinim

Calabar Municipality

Residential streets just off the Marian corridor, close to schools, clinics and small plazas.

  • Ekorinim streets off Marian Road
  • Atimbo Road

Atekong & Big Qua

Toward the waterfront

Established residential quarters on the eastern side of town, sitting between the city core and the river settlements.

  • Big Qua Qua Street
  • Atekong streets
  • Mary Slessor Avenue

How the flat ₦1,000 fare applies

Calabar EV plans one price for the whole city: ₦1,000 from pickup to drop-off, as long as both points sit inside the Calabar city zone. Marian to Calabar South, UNICAL to Watt Market, State Housing to Tinapa — same fare, with no surge pricing and no haggling over the meter. The boundary is the service-area map on our homepage, not this street list: if your street falls inside the city, it's covered.

Rides are requested in the app by dropping a pickup pin and a destination. During pre-launch, our team reviews each request and contacts you to confirm pickup before any service begins.
